Geocache Description:

'Tis true…Stockley_true placed a cache at the summit of Mt. Whitney (14,497'). Obviously the "prize" in this geocache is bagging the summit and the views from the top--the dessert is finding the cache. Currently this is the highest cache in the "Lower 48". Three fools from Utah thought why not place a cache as long as we were going to hike to the summit anyway. This is not a trivial hike. Do your research and be prepared for anything (rain, lightning, wind, exhaustion, darkness, etc.)

Checked with a ranger at the Lone Pine Inyo Ranger Office about putting a geocache on the mountain. He hadn't heard of geocaching but said he didn't think there would be any problem placing it at the summit. He did say it might be removed as trash sometime later in the year. We decided to cache it anyway so get it while it is available. We just followed the trail up and up and up and up. Hope the marmots don't think Christmas came early.

Mt. Whitney Peak-A-Boo cache has been placed NW (about 290 degrees) of the summit. It is a normal ammo box. Coordinates I used for the summit are: N36° 34.717, W118° 17.522. Nice stuff in this cache. If you take something please replace with similar value. Please replace the cache and hide with loose rocks. When you are finished and flush with success, head to town or your camp for a celebratory dinner or soak your tired feet in one of the many streams and lakes or do both.
