Location:

The coordinates bring you to a small memorial garden near old Wilton Hill, a historic location where sisters Anne Frobel and Elizabeth Frobel lived for most of their lives during the 1800s. Anne, the eldest of the two sisters, wrote The Civil War Diary of Anne Frobel. Her diary starts in 1861 and describes how the sisters survived during the Civil War while living at Wilton Hill. Can you imagine two sisters trying to preserve their property during that time!

Below is a fictional diary entry.  Something Anne may have written during happier times when she and Lizzy were much younger, living here, on a farm in eastern Fairfax County.

April 19, 1826

Yesterday Lizzy and I finished our lessons and chores early then decided to take Pony for a walk before supper. We had started up the path when a big thunder and lightning storm came.  We quickly ran for cover under the well. The storm didn’t last long so afterwards we continued walking Pony. That’s when we discovered a mysterious forest. We tied Pony to a post and walked over to the forest. When we got close there was a scary noise, so we ran to a nearby evergreen tree and hid behind it. Someone else must have done the same thing, because we saw a shiny key on the ground. We tied the key to a part of the magic forest right behind the evergreen just in case they come back looking for it.

***DIARY UPDATE***

One year later our beloved Pony had an unfortunate accident!

There was a lot of rain that year and the field got torn up really bad.

Papa fixed up the grazing field, but poor Pony never recovered. Nowadays when we return to the field where we used to walk Pony we run and jump and play and think of her. And sometimes we sneak off to see if the key is still hidden near the magic forest.

Congrats to CWillyPngn for FTF and Cache Clown 76 for STF!
