Si vous êtes face à la mer, vous avez une vue sur l'estuaire de la Charente, sur le Fort de la Pointe dit Fort Vasou, et derrière vous apercevez le phare.
Derrière vous, dans le champ, se trouve une grande croix de galets, à même le sol, qui marque l'endroit où furent ensevelis 254 prêtres déportés en 1794. Ce site est la destination d'un pèlerinage au mois d'août : les participants traversent la passe aux Bœufs avec un galet qu'ils déposent à l'arrivée sur la croix.
Ces prêtres moururent de maladie et d'épuisement à bord des pontons de Rochefort, le Washington et les Deux Associés, d'anciens navires négriers. Il s'agissait de prêtres réfractaires, ayant refusé de prêter serment à la nouvelle constitution.

Behind you, in the field, is a large cross of pebbles, on the ground, which marks the place where were buried 254 priests deported in 1794. This site is the destination of a pilgrimage in August: the participants cross the pass aux Bœufs with a pebble they deposit on arrival on the cross.
These priests died of illness and exhaustion aboard the pontoons of Rochefort, the Washington and the Two Associates, former slave ships. They were refractory priests, having refused to take an oath to the new constitution.
