L'Église de Saint Hugues de Chartreuse
L'église de Saint-Hugues-de-Chartreuse fut bâtie entre janvier 1840 et automne 1841 à l'initiative des frères François et Jean-Benoît Brun afin d'éviter aux habitants du hameau d'avoir à marcher jusqu'à Saint Pierre de Chartreuse pour assister à l'office. Elle fut entièrement démolie puis reconstruite dans le style néo-roman que nous pouvons observer aujourd'hui entre 1881 et 1883 car elle menaçait la sécurité publique par sa précarité. En 1953, l’arrivée du jeune artiste Jean-Marie Pirot, dit Arcabas, marque une nouvelle étape dans la vie de l'église. Celui-ci va, pendant plus de trente ans, créer cette œuvre monumentale qu'est l'ensemble d'art sacré contemporain que vous pouvez contempler aujourd'hui dans l'église. Arcabas vivait depuis 1986 à Saint Pierre de Chartreuse, il est décédé le 23 août 2018. The church of Saint-Hugues-de-Chartreuse was built between january 1840 and autumn 1841 on initiative of the brothers François and Jean-Benoît Brun in order to spare the hamlet's inhabitants having to walk to Saint-Pierre-de-Chartreuse to attend the service. Between 1881 and 1883, it was entirely demolished and then rebuild in the Neo-Romanesque style that you can observe today, since its precarity was a threat to public safety. In 1953, the arrival of the young artist Jean-Marie Pirot, also known as Arcabas, marked a new step in the history of this church. Arcabas spent more than 30 years creating a monumental artwork : the ensemble of sacred modern art that you can contemplate nowadays in the church. Arcabas had been living in Saint Pierre de Chartreuse since 1986, he died the 23rd of August 2018.
