How Geocaching Works

Geocache Description:

Dönerstag is a tradition that started in Germany back in 2007, when German geocachers met at kebab shops all around the country at the same time.

These events are now a tradition that take place every year, and on a Thursday. Now the German word for Thursday is "Donnerstag" while the German word for kebab is "Döner". Hence, "Dönerstag"!!!

Come and share in the tradition at Royal Natal National Park this year by joining us at a picnic site next to the Mahai Dam from 14h00 to 15h00. There may even be some kebabs to sample.

Note that this event is held inside Royal Natal National Park, and an access fee will therefore be charged to enter the Park.

The following tariffs are applicable to day visitors:
1. Park permit fee of R40 per adult and R20 per child;
2. Heavy vehicle fee of R100 per vehicle with 11-20 passengers or R200 per vehicle with >20 passengers.

If you have a valid Wild Card, the permit fees above do not apply.

The gates to the Park are open from 06h00 to 18h00, so you are welcome to come earlier and/or stay on longer and explore the Park further. There are some lovely hiking trails with many geocaches to be found, or if relaxing by the Mahai River or casting a fly line for some elusive rainbow trout is more your cup of tea, then you can do that too.

Don't forget to bring your own snacks, cooldrinks, camping chairs, trackables and geotales!
