Geocache Description:

Local folklore has it that the village is so called because "It gazes over Ely."  In fact the name is of Anglo Saxon origin - Gaseleia, but Ely Cathedral, "The Ship of the Fens", can indeed be clearly seen on the horizon on a clear day from the highest point on Moulton Road.  To see for yourself, just click on the photograph on the Gallery page.

The Icknield Way Path passes through the village on its 110 mile journey from Ivinghoe Beacon in Buckinghamshire to Knettishall Heath in Suffolk. The Icknield Way Trail, a multi-user route for walkers, horse riders and off-road cyclists also passes through the village.

If anybody would like to expand this series please do. I would just ask that you let Smokeypugs know first so they can keep track of the Village Sign numbers and names to avoid duplication.
