It was only recently after many years of walking on Kit Hill that I came across a bridge that spanned a deep tramway which runs into a mine entrance. This is a fine example of adit mining and reflects why Kit Hill is a World Heritage site for mining. It really is impressive. The ore containing Wolfram and Arsenic was taken down the tramway in trucks to an ariel cableway (starts in a field opposite the lower car park). The ore was tipped into large iron buckets that took it to the crushing plant at the Gunnislake Clitters mine. The co-ordinates will take you to the centre of the bridge, then follow the hint, it's obvious. The cache itself is a smallish tube with just a log book. Bring your own pen and I'm afraid it is not big enough for swaps or TB's. It is easy access to this cache from the middle car park on Summit Road or the Summit car park. It is not a paved path but a wide grass covered track. You could do this as a 'dash & cache'. There is no need to, so please do not climb over any fencing around this cache. Be aware, because of it's proximity to a car park this can be a busy dog walking area!!! BE AWARE - there are ADDERS on Kit Hill and they are at their most dangerous April to July when they are sluggish. Be careful in long grass, under vegetation & poking around in holes. This cache is placed with the kind permission of the Kit Hill Park Manager and complies with Geocaching and Park guidelines.
The Little Bridges series was started by Stanthews in 2009 to highlight small footbridges in remote parts of Wiltshire. Since then the series has been expanded by others all over the country and starting to spread fast. There is a stats listing run by Billiethecat, so you can see how many Little Bridges you have found, you can find it here:- https://littlebridgesseries.wordpress.com/ . If you would like to add to the series, please contact Stan on stanthews@aol.com and he will give you a number for your bridge, to qualify, the bridge must be a foot bridge too small for vehicles, please make sure your title exactly matches “Little Bridges # xxxx then the name” including spaces so it will get picked up and added to stats list.
