Chauvency-Saint-Hubert ou l'âme d'un prieuré
En l’an 956, le seigneur local sentant sa fin arriver et voulant se racheter, donne la moitié de Chauvency à l’abbaye Saint-Hubert, d’où son nom actuel Chauvency-Saint-Hubert. Les moines bénédictins y fondèrent un prieuré dont vous pouvez encore admirer de cossus bâtiments religieux comme l’ancienne maison du prieur du XVIIIe siècle, celle du Prévôt qui y rendait la justice, l’ancien presbytère, la maison du cellérier qui gérait les finances, l’église Saint-Hubert reconstruite en 1736 et sa tour porche fortifiée du XVIe siècle.
In the year 956, the local landowner, who sensed that his end was nigh and wanted to make amends, gave half of Chauvency to the Saint Hubert Abbey - hence the name Chauvency-Saint-Hubert. Benedictine monks founded a priory there, where opulent religious buildings can still be admired, such as the 18th century Prior’s house and the Provost’s house where he meted out justice, the old presbytery and the counting house where the bursar managed the finances and the church of Saint Hubert, rebuilt in 1736 and its 16th century fortified porch tower.
