Verneuil-Grand, le village au Christ
Goûtez au charme de la vallée de la Chiers du haut de l’imposant calvaire, érigé en 1899 en lieu et place de l’ancienne croix des Mascarades, d’où vous pouvez apercevoir le village de Verneuil-Grand. Parcourez Verneuil- Grand à la découverte du patrimoine religieux : ses quatre croix protectrices et sa croix de Saint-André faite de clous sur une porte en chêne de 1798. Quant à l’église Saint-Médard, elle a conservé son ancien cimetière, son mur d’enceinte et son imposant presbytère de 1760, témoin de son appartenance à la riche abbaye de Juvigny.
Take in the charm of the Chiers valley while standing beside the imposing cross and figures, erected in 1899 to replace the legendary croix des Mascarades; from here you can see the village of Verneuil-Grand. Walk through the streets of this village, in search of the last signs of the villagers’ historic devotion: its four protecting crosses and its St Andrew’s cross made of nails on an oak door dating back to 1798. Over at Saint Medard’s church, it still has its ancient cemetery, the surrounding wall and its imposing presbytery dating from 1760, a reminder of its past as part of the rich abbey at Juvigny.
