Verneuil-Petit, mémoire de l’habitat lorrain
Blotti au pied d’une colline boisée qui invite à la randonnée, Verneuil-Petit vous relate par son patrimoine bâti, plus de neuf siècles d’histoire. Débutez par l’église Saint- Martin du XIIe siècle et la charmante armoire eucharistique de 1631 incrustée dans la façade de l’ancien presbytère.
Poursuivez par le lavoir de 1769 encore en eau, un des plus anciens du Pays de Montmédy. Interrogez-vous, enfin, sur l’utilité de ces grosses pierres caractéristiques du mode de construction lorrain, appelées boutisses, qui émaillent façades et murs de magnifiques maisons des XVIIIe et XIXe siècles aux linteaux de portes décorés.
Nestling at the foot of a wooded hill - a ramblers’ paradise - the buildings at Verneuil-Petit will take you through more than nine hundred years of history. Start with the 12th century Saint Martin’s church and the charming Eucharist cupboard from 1631 set into the façade of the old presbytery. Move onto the 1769 wash house, which still has water in it, one of the oldest in the Montmédy area and ask yourself why they used those huge stones so characteristic of the local building method, (boutisses), which adorn the façades and walls of the magnificent houses from the 18th and 19th centuries, along with their ornate door lintels.
