Espartignac doit son nom à SPARTINIUS, ancien propriétaire gallo-romain.
En empruntant avant l’église un sentier balisé, on atteint un plateau dominant la Vézère.
Sur ce site se trouvait le Château-l’Abbaye, probablement érigé vers l’an mil.
Ce château, entièrement détruit, contrôlait le passage sur la Vézère, emprunté par la route des métaux précieux de l’Armorique à la Méditerranée.
En contrebas se tient le dolmen. Il s’agit en fait d’un abri connu sous le nom de " Maison du Loup ". C’est un ancien poste de guet du château.
Espartignac got its name from SPARTINIUS, a former Gallo-Roman owner.
Before the church, follow the marked trail, until a plateau dominating the Vézère.
On this site was the Château-l'Abbaye, probably erected around the year 1000.
This castle, entirely destroyed, used to control the passage on the Vézère, on the route of precious metals from Brittany to the Mediterranean.
Below is the dolmen. It is actually a shelter known as "House of the Wolf". It is an old lookout post of the castle.
