In der Kleinstadt Punxsutawney/Pennsylvania ist der "Groundhog Day" ein jährliches, kulturelles Ereignis.

Der "Groundhog Day" wird zwischenzeitlich in vielen amerikanischen und kanadischen Orten am 02. Februar "gefeiert". Wir kennen den "Murmeltiertag" aus dem Film "Und täglich grüßt das Murmeltier", in dem Phil, das Murmeltier aus seinem Winterschlaf geweckt wird und es noch sechs Wochen lang Winter bleibt, wenn er seinen Schatten sieht. Auf das "Ergebnis" warten alle gespannt und wird dann von einem Komittee "amtlich" verkündet. Allerdings stimmte diese Vorhersage nur in 39 % seit 1887, dem Jahr, in dem dieser Brauch zum ersten Mal stattfand.

Bei uns ist dieses Ereignis mit dem Siebenschläfertag vergleichbar, der allerdings viel später im Jahr (und ohne Fest) statt findet. Wir Outdoorler wollen ja aber möglichst früh im Jahr wissen, wann es wieder so richtig los geht! OK ... fragen wir Phil – ich bring ihn mit.
