St James The Great, Longdon
Access to the cache is via a gate in the church boundary, not from along the main road! This ancient building has stood here for about 850 years and probably replaced an earlier wooden building of the Saxon period. One unusual item is on the wall forming the right-hand side of the doorway where can be seen the inscribed “Bride's Hand”. This hand with a heart in the palm should traditionally be touched by brides entering the Church on their wedding day in order to bring good fortune etc. to the marriage. Detail of the other interesting items within the church can be found at Longdon Church History

If anybody would like to expand to this series please do, I would just ask that you could let Sadexploration know first so he can keep track of the Church numbers and names to avoid duplication.
