Geocache Description:

Stour Row Stroll #9 of 12

This walk takes you on a 5km walk around the peaceful hamlet of Stour Row on public footpaths and short stretches of country road. You may need a map and wellies/boots! There are directions from one cache to the next and make sure you collect the information for the bonus cache as you go round (GC72BDM). Details of parking etc. can be found at #1 (GC72B22). No Night Caching on this circuit please!

Please log your visit with a photo of the view from the stile if you can!

Route Guidance: You have a choice of routes here. The footpath continues along the boundary of the woods over three stiles to reach a gateway into the woods. However, in the summer this route is usually very overgrown so alternatively, cross the stile behind the oak tree and turn left onto the path through the woods. This will lead you to the other side of the same gate (and very close to the location of GC6BZ23 Duncliffe Wood 3). From the gate, follow the path through the field towards some abandoned horse boxes and this cache.

Make sure you collect the information here for SRS #10 which is a Multi Cache

Duncliffe Wood is so heavily forested that only during the leafless depths of winter can you get a glimpse of a view across the Blackmore Vale from its slopes - unless you stroll out to this perfectly sited stile! Here you'll have an unbroken view to Melbury Beacon to the west, Bulbarrow Hill to the south and across the Blackmore Vale to the east. At ground zero you'll find a new bridge that replaced the previous perilous rotten plank as part of the Ramblers Pathwatch campaign in the winter of 2015. More details of their campaign to restore and maintain public rights of way can be found by going to the Pathwatch link on their website at www.ramblers.org.uk.

The Little Bridges series was started by Stanthews in 2009 to highlight small footbridges in remote parts of Wiltshire. Since then the series has been expanded by others all over the country and starting to spread fast, Damian from Winter Foxes has created and updates a list of cachers who has found 10 or more little bridges and can be found here, if you would like to add to the series, please contact Stan on stanthews@aol.com and he will give you a number for your bridge, to qualify, the bridge must be a foot bridge too small for vehicles, please make sure your title exactly matches “Little Bridges # xx then name” including spaces so it will get picked up and added to Damian’s list.

First to Find - brujoy - Congratulations!
