Geocache Description:

This geocache is of significant historical interest. It is one of many way points along the route traveled by Sir Percy FitzPatrick and his faithful dog, Jock.

'Jock of the Bushveld' is a book written by Percy FitzPatrick, a transport rider, about his adventures with Jock, a Staffordshire Bull Terrier. It takes place in the Lowveld during the time of the gold rush in the 1880's and is well worthwhile reading.

This memorial was erected in honour of the transport riders in the time of the gold rush, including Percy FitzPatrick. It is interesting to note all the place names in the mosaic, a lot of them still current. There used to be a bronze statue of Jock here, but it was stolen. There is however a replica at the Mac Mac Forest Retreat centre about 350m further up the hill.
