The GW is a good, level, metalled surface and is busy with Cyclists and Dog Walkers. Take Muggle Care.
The WDW is more like an old lane, where it is unusual to see anyone other than sheep or cattle. Stretches of this way can be more like a stream after wet weather so waterproof footwear is recommended. There are a couple of inclines but it’s still relatively level.
TAKE CARE crossing the main road at Bearslake, make sure you have children and other beasties under control.
Both Ways have their attractions; I would be interested to learn which you prefer?
If you aren’t planning to complete the whole route in one go, you can park at either of the Station Road Crossings and do a smaller loop. I have put a couple of caches along this road to act as a link.
There is ample parking in Lydford – near the start of the GW is best or in Station Road. There are pubs in Lydford and half way round at Bearslake.
Whilst the whole route can be cycled, you need a robust machine (and engine) for some of the stretches along the WDW.
We have done the WDW in a Landrover – it’s a Byway - but that would be cheating!
I have put the appropriate attribute for those that are C&D.
As ever, the co-ords have been different everytime I have checked them, so I have tried to be accurate with the hints. The hints are all given as if you are doing the route in sequence starting from Lydford along the GW. I have listed most of them as micros or small; the spoiler shows the two main types of container I have used.
Pick a nice day, have fun and please enjoy some of the views.
