Scopwick Methodist Church
There has been a Methodist Chapel* on the present site since 1840. Before that, from about 1819, meetings were held in people’s homes or the open air. The average attendance at worship in 1851 was one hundred, and in 1869 the old chapel was extended to accommodate this thriving community.
However, by the 1890s it was felt that a more substantial building was needed and additional land was purchased. Between 1901 and 1905 plans were laid and money raised. Tenders for the work were requested in March 1905 and fifteen weeks later the present chapel was dedicated at a cost of £640 10s 0d.
Two further renovations were carried out in 1954 and 1991, and the chapel today remains in regular use by a small but faithful congregation.
