L'Orne a creusé dans la roche et à créée ce qu'on appel un méandre, c'est à dire est une boucle non fermée faite par le lit d'un cours d'eau. Il ne se forme des méandres que dans certaines conditions, notamment lorsque la pente est faible. La taille des méandres varie en fonction des caractéristiques de ce cours d'eau (géologie, hydrologie...).
Ici, il s'agit d'une boucle presque parfaite qui est quasiment refermé sur lui-même. La partie restante est formé par la barre rocheuse du Hom.
Les méandres évoluent au cours du temps, sauf cas particuliers, ou bien lorsqu'il y a des aménagements pour ne pas qu'il bouge pas. En effet, dans un méandre, la force du courant est plus grande à l'extérieur, de ce fait, elle vient donc éroder les berges de cette rive qui recule et qui est devenu ici très abrupt du fait que le terrain à sa base a été emporté. Ces sédiments sont transportés par l'eau et il s'en dépose sur la rive opposée (la rive convexe) qui a des pentes plus douces.
Avec ces phénomènes, un méandre a tendance d'une part à se déplacer dans le sens du courant, et d'autre part à s'agrandir, jusqu'à ce que la boucle qu'il forme soit coupée: le cours d'eau creusera une sorte de raccourcis. Les alluvions en se déposant vont alors colmater l'entrée du méandre coupé et celui-ci deviendra un bras mort du cours d'eau. Il pourra ensuite se former un autre méandre.

The river Orne have dug in the rock and created what is called a meander, that is to say is an unclosed loop made by the bed of a stream. Meanders are formed only under certain conditions, particularly when the gentle is slope. The size of meanders varies according to the characteristics of this watercourse (geology, hydrology ...). Here, it is an almost perfect loop that is almost closed on itself. The remaining part is formed by the rock bar of the Hom.
Meanders evolve over time, except in special cases, or when there are facilities so as not to move. Indeed, in a meander, the force of the current is greater on the outside, it therefore erodes the banks which recedes, and which, here, has become very abrupt because the ground at its base has been taken away. These sediments are transported by water and deposited on the opposite shore (the convex shore) which has milder slopes.
With these phenomena, a meander tends on the one hand to move in the direction of the current, and on the other hand to enlarge, until the loop which it forms is cut off: the stream will dig a sort of shortcuts. Alluvial deposits will then plug the entrance of the meander cut and it will become a dead arm of the stream. Then another meander can be formed.
