Azeitão. O nome deriva de azzeittum, palavra de origem árabe que significa “olival”. Ao que se sabe estes já existiam quando os árabes cá chegaram, cerca do Séc. III d.C.
Do mesmo modo também já existiam estes seres que agora vos apresentamos…
Serve esta cache para mostrar alguns dos seres vivos mais antigos de Portugal, aliás, já cá estavam antes de Portugal. É um conjunto de três oliveiras milenares (Olea europaea L. var. europaea), com cerca de 2000 anos de existência. Quando foram plantadas ainda por cá andavam os Romanos.
Calcula-se que no nosso país haja apenas duas ou três mais velhas do que estas. São árvores classificadas como Árvores de Interesse Público.

Têm uma presença imponente, apesar de passarem despercebidas. Ficam junto a uma das estradas mais movimentadas da região (do país??), a EN 10. O estacionamento na berma é difícil, pois esta acaba num desnível e um veículo ligeiro pode ficar a tocar por baixo se sair da berma de alcatrão. Como não é grande lugar de paragem, pouca gente dá por elas.
O lugar é simples mas as árvores valem a visita.
Como bons geocachers há que cumprir as regras básicas: Respeitar as árvores, respeitar o espaço, ser discreto na busca, ter cuidado com a estrada, praticar CITO. (Que bom seria ter a consciência de que o lugar se mantém limpo devido ao Geocaching…)

This cache's purpose is to show some of the oldest living beings in Portugal which, by the way, were already here before Portugal. It is a set of three ancient olive trees (Olea europaea L. var. Europaea), with approximately 2000 years of existence, planted when the Romans were still here.
It is estimated that in our country there are only two or three trees older than these. These trees are classified as Public Interest.
They have a commanding presence, though go unnoticed. They're along one of the most crowded roads in the region (maybe country ??), EN 10. The parking on the side road is difficult because it ends in a gap and a low vehicle may smite below when leaving it. As it is not a great place to stop, they often go unnoticed.
The place is quite simple but the trees are worth the visit.
As good geocachers please abide by these basic rules: Respect the trees, respect the space, be discreet while searching, be careful with the road, practice CITO. (How wonderful would it be that the place is kept clean due to Geocaching ...)
