Les falaises du Cap Gris-Nez sont composées de roches sédimentaires datant du Jurassique Supérieur, formées il y a environ 150 millions d’années. On y trouve une base d’argiles et de marnes calcaires noires du Kimméridgien (les Argiles de Châtillon), recouvertes de sables et de grès du Tithonien (également appelés les grès de la Crêche).
Ces grés sont constitués de grains de sable qui se sont parfois agglomérés à partir d'un noyau originel pour former d’énormes boules pouvant dépasser un mètre de diamètre. On appelle ce processus la grésification par nucléation.
Sous l’effet des intempéries et de la mer ces boules se détachent et viennent s’accumuler au pied de la falaise. Ces grès ovoïdes de couleur jaune orangé sont appelés des "œufs" par les habitants du secteur.

Les coordonnées sont celles du parking. Comme pour toutes les earthcaches, l’objectif n’est pas de découvrir une boîte.
Pour valider votre visite, il vous suffit de vous rendre aux différents points de référence indiqués. Cette petite promenade, ainsi que le descriptif ci-dessus vous permettront de valider cette earthcache en répondant aux questions suivantes :
1 - Quelle roche constitue les "œufs" du Gris-Nez ?
2 - Au point de référence R1 (panneau d’information) : A quel lieu-dit les œufs ont t‘ils donné leur nom ?
3 - Au point de référence R2 (aménagement paysager) : Combien d’"œufs" comptez vous ?

ENGLISH
The cliffs of Cap Gris-Nez consists of sedimentary rocks from upper jurassic period, formed 150 millions years ago. The base of the cliff consists of Kimméridgian clay and marl (clay of Châtillon), covered with Tithonian sand and sandstone (also called sandstone of the Crêche).
Sandstone consists of grains of sand that are agglomerated to form big balls, which can exceed one meter in diameter.
Due the impacts of rain and the sea, these balls detach from the cliff and fall on the beach. These huge orange-yellow and ovoïd-shaped balls are called from the local name of "eggs".

The coordinates are those of parkng. As with all Earthcaches, the goal is not to find a box.
To validate your visit, you simply go to different indicated reference points. This little walk, and the above description will help you to validate this earthcache by answering the following questions:
1 - Which rock constitutes the "eggs" of Gris-Nez ?
2 - At the reference point R1 (information board) : "Eggs" is found in the name of which place ?
3 - At the reference point R2 (landscaping) : How many "eggs" do you count ?
