About Havenstreet Station
Haven Street railway station opened in 1875 and was an intermediate stop on (successively) the Ryde and Newport Railway, Isle of Wight Central Railway, Southern Railway and British Rail-being renamed Havenstreet in 1958. It closed on 21 February 1966 but re-opened as the headquarters of the Isle of Wight Steam Railway in 1971.
The railway crosses the Ryde to Newport road and as the train enters Havenstreet Station the fireman exchanges the single line token with the signalman - giving up the Smallbrook/Havenstreet Tablet and collecting the Key Token inscribed Havenstreet/Newport. This is the driver's authority to enter the Wootton Single Line for the next stage of the journey.
