Geocache Description:

BRIDGE REPAIR IN SILVER WOODS

You have been tasked with the repair of the new footbridge in Silver Woods, Kentisbeare. You will need to collect resources and tools and then repair the bridge!

*************************

This Wherigo should take around an hour and you will walk about 1.25 miles.

Silver Woods is on the site of what used to be farmland, but was then sold and trees were planted by the community in 1999. It is owned by the Woodland Trust and the River Ken flows through the middle of it. There are two ways to cross the river (well, 3 actually if you count wading across!) - a footbridge built to mark the milennium at the Western end, and the new one built in 2016. This is the one you'll have to try and build!

*************************

The cartridge can be downloaded HERE!

The cartridge may not work on GPS devices due to pictures, but should work for smartphones and tablets. I tested it using my iPad.

Cache placed with kind permission of the Woodland Trust.

*************************

Parking is available at either the village hall or there is room for 1 or 2 cars by the gate into the woods. If you are doing Cache Round Kentisbeare, you will arrive at the main gate between #11 and #12. If you are coming from the village hall car park, walk down the path between the church and pub then turn left and walk down the hill. Keep going for a bit and take the right turn just past some thatched cottages.

I would advise wearing wellies, as the paths are always a bit muddy, even if it hasn't rained much. You will have to enter the river at one or two points during the Wherigo as well, but it is only ankle deep.

PLEASE NOTE: YOU WILL NEED A UV TORCH!

You will not be able to complete the cartridge after prolonged heavy rain, as the woodland becomes very flooded. I would probably disable the cache during floods. It is very spectacular to watch the sheer force of the water though!

The Little Bridges series was started by Stanthews in 2009 to highlight small footbridges in remote parts of Wiltshire. Since then the series has been expanded by others all over the country and starting to spread fast, Damian from Winter Foxes has created and updates a list of cachers who has found 10 or more little bridges and can be found here, if you would like to add to the series, please contact Stan on stanthews@aol.com and he will give you a number for your bridge, to qualify, the bridge must be a foot bridge too small for vehicles, please make sure your title exactly matches “Little Bridges # xx then name” including spaces so it will get picked up and added to Damian’s list.
