The Arnica Montana
Die Echte Arnika (Arnica montana), auch Bergwohlverleih genannt, ist eine Pflanzenart aus der Gattung Arnika innerhalb der Familie der Korbblütler (Asteraceae). Sie gedeiht in den Gebirgen Europas und steht unter Naturschutz. Die Echte Arnika wurde zur Blume des Jahres 1986 und zur Arzneipflanze des Jahres 2001 gewählt. Die Echte Arnika ist eine aromatisch duftende, sommergrüne, ausdauernde krautige Pflanze und erreicht Wuchshöhen von 20 bis 60 Zentimetern. Die Blütezeit reicht in Mitteleuropa von Mai bis August.
Arnica montana, sometimes mistakenly referred to as wolf's bane, has also been called leopard's bane, mountain tobacco and mountain arnica, is a European flowering plant in the sunflower family. It is noted for its large yellow flower head. The flowering season is between May and August (Central Europe). Arnica montana grows in nutrient-poor siliceous meadows or clay soils.
