NoVABob was an eccentric fellow. By any measure. Some thought he was odd because he spent hours in his workshop cooking up wily birdhouses with wires and hooks and holes going this way and that. Some thought he was different because he was forever pursuing the design of the perfect cache, his raison d’etre. Some just thought that his huge orange and blue Kid n’ Play flat top was a unique style.
But one thing no one could deny is that NoVABob was beloved. He built his first fortune with some good luck in the stock market, yet NoVABob gave away nearly all of his immense earnings. He got joy from helping others. He built baseball fields for kids. He funded the performing arts center. He even sponsored research for llama language lessons (I told you he was weird).
He was also brilliant. Like off the charts smart. Given his wealth he rivaled SteelDude - Anthony Shark’s - collection of gadgets. These were no tinker toys. NoVABob had pioneered some incredible technology. He built an algorithm that automatically calculated the final coordinates of all 5/5 geocaches. He was the world’s more prolific extreme cacher. Rumor has it he was nearing completion on a cache locating device – something he promised to give to anyone who wanted it, free of charge. DNFs were going to be a thing of the past.
Sadly all of this WAS going to happen. But we have found out that tragedy has struck. We got a call about an hour ago that an ultra-marathoner training deep in the Fountainhead woods made a grisly discovery. NoVABob’s body was in bad shape. Blood and Guts were everywhere. His intestines were spread around like liverwurst. Puncture wounds seemingly resembling those of an eagle’s talon covered his torso. I hesitate to share this in case you’re squeamish, but his head looked as though a crazed rooster had pecked at it for hours.
The NoVAGO PD is almost at a complete dead end trying to understand how one of our most beloved members of the community – one who did so much good – could meet such a shocking end. Whoever did this was a professional. Despite the gruesome scene there was very little evidence left – though we can tell the perp left in a hurry – perhaps they heard the runner coming.
Tucked in NoVABob’s sock was a business card – belonging to Anthony Shark himself – with a fake address and phone number listed. We don’t know why or if NoVABob was meeting with Anthony – we’ll certainly need to follow up on that.
Other than that all we have is the voicemails and call logs on his cell phone. He was routinely calling some company called DiamondLog enterprises. And someone who didn’t identify themselves said the prototype for the copperhead scimitar was ready.
Detective, I’m sorry that is all I have for you. You’re welcome to look around here and see if you can find anything else of interest. Otherwise I think you better call HQ and let them know this case is in serious trouble.
Take note of the clues, but don’t take the clues, in each cache container. It will contain info needed to contact HQ and get your next assignment.
