Welcome to the pretty church of St Giles in Cheddington.
It is thought that the first Christian church here was built on the site of an old pagan temple due to the Saxon name Cheddington and the position of the church (on a wooded hill). St Augustine, who came to convert England in 579 A.D. was advised by Pope Gregory the Great ‘that heathen temples were not to be destroyed but turned, whenever possible, into Christian churches and that the huts which they used to make of boughs of trees round the temples were still to be used for amusements on Christian festivals’.
More can be read about the church at http://www.cheddington.org.uk/media/2/files/StGilesHistory.pdf
Onto the cache....
There is limted parking at the church, so an easy cache and grab or a pleasant walk up from Church Lane where there is parking at the Village Hall, through the orchard from the village.
The cache has been placed as close to the church as possible but on a public footpath. You're looking for a well-disguised film canister at ground level. Contains logbook only so please bring your own pen.
