At the top of this staircase is the neighborhood of Ward Hill, the smallest official neighborhood on Staten Island. This Hill peeks at almost 410 feet above sea level and is named after Cable T. Ward (nephew of NY Governor Tompkins) who owned the hill, and build the Ward Mansion in 1835. His mansion is now a landmark (waypoint included).
Today this stairwell is hardly used and very neglected, Sad to see the litter here. When I was a kid I would shovel snow for the City and these stairs where one of the sidewalks I always had to do lol. The cache is in a typical spot for the type of infrastructure present.
