Geocache Description:

This is a traditional cache, one of a circuit of seven in Learmount Forest. The caches should be achievable in under two hours and are a roughly circular route if taken in order. The positioning of the caches makes them unsuitable for wheelchair users.

This cache is not suitable for children, may require entry to the water and is undertaken at the cachers own risk. Footing in the area can be very slippy especially after rainfall. Don't attempt unless you feel able.

Learmount Forest covers an area of 118 hectares of the foothills of the North Sperrin Mountains and is located at the edge of the village of Park. The Forest dates back to the 18th Century and there are over fifteen species of trees planted within, some of which are well over 100 years old. These include Lime, Scots Pine, Norway Spruce, Beech and Horse Chestnut. At the lower end of the forest the River Faughan winds its way on its journey to the sea. The forest paths are dotted with wooden sculptures and for younger geocachers there is a playground beside the car parking area.

This cache is part of the Little Bridges series which I first came upon in England and wanted to bring to Northern Ireland. The cache is a micro located near the bridge and needs to be replaced exactly as found to maintain the concealment. Be careful of your footing as you attempt this cache. This cache will bring you into the water. Do not attempt to retrieve the cache unless you feel it's safe to do so and keep in mind water levels. It is normally shin deep but can be deeper following heavy rainfall. If in doubt keep out!

The Little Bridges series was started by Stanthews in 2009 to highlight small footbridges in remote parts of Wiltshire. Since then the series has been expanded by others all over the country and starting to spread fast, Damian from Winter Foxes has created and updates a list of cachers who has found 10 or more little bridges and can be found here, if you would like to add to the series, please contact Stan on stanthews@aol.com and he will give you a number for your bridge, to qualify, the bridge must be a foot bridge too small for vehicles, please make sure your title exactly matches “Little Bridges # xx then name” including spaces so it will get picked up and added to Damian’s list.
