Geocache Description:

This should be a hopefully simple puzzle cache that will provide you some history of the Whaling City. We have done a few puzzles like this for other towns around that have been well recieved, so here's another!

A section of Old Dartmouth near the west bank of the Acushnet River, originally called Bedford Village, was officially incorporated as the town of New Bedford in 17E7 after the American Revolutionary War.

New Bedford's first newspaper, The Medley, was found in 17I2.

On June 12, 17K2, the town set up its first post office.

Fairhaven separated from New Bedford in 18J2, forming an independent town that included both present-day Fairhaven and present-day Acushnet.

Once French Canadians also secured a foothold in New Bedford, they built the Church of the Sacred Heart in 187D.

In 18G7 the town of New Bedford officially became a city.

Polish immigrants began arriving in New Bedford the late 19th century and established the parish of Our Lady of Perpetual Help in 190H.

New Bedford and its textile industry garnered national headlines in 192F when it was hit with a strike of 30,000 workers.
