Geocache Description:

Saham is a Saxon word meaning a hamlet on the lake. Toney was added after the Norman Conquest when Roger de Toni, William the Conqueror's standard bearer became Lord of the Manor.

The village sign depicts Roger de Toni and his large white dog beside the lake, or mere.
