[ENG] The church was constructed in 1772 by monks of the Bernadine monastery using only an axe as a tool. Still there is no electricity and no heating. The value of the church is in combination of its simple form and the 18th century heritage as a religious building.
According to the version of the book publisher V.Locis, the main chapel might be built about 1670, however, there is no precise documentary evidence of it. In the first half of the 19th century the church was renovated when the external boarding was added. The smaller repairs took place in the beginning of the 20th centuary but the century-old weather boarding was replaced in 1998, the time of dean P.Zeilis service. In its early dates Piļcine church was a branch church of the Dricāni parish and only in 1994 it became the main church of the Piļcine parish.
The church takes 146 skm. that has 1 nave. Sacristies easements were added and created the lengthened altar roof. At the entrance a porch adjoins the main body of the church. The both sides of the facade are decorated with semi columns as well as the church interior. The peculiarity is the church hexagonal tower with semi round windows inside. Several archaic painting images decorate the church anteroom.
There are some significant paintings in the church. The holy painting "Madonna with a child'' is a famous work of Italian Renaissance master A.del Sarto. ''Madonna with harpies'' is a local master's work. To the right-hand altar depicts the legendary moment when baby Jesus is being caressed in the arms of St.Anthony that is a painting of the first half of the 19th century. The high altar is distinguished with the restored in 1996/1997 painting ''Jesus on the Cross''. On the background of the painting there is Calvary hill, also called Angels' hill, with figures of two angels. The holly paintings ''St.Andrew'', ''St.Peter'' and ''St.Maria Magdalena'' were set in the 19th century, as well as two crucifixes. Very ancient wooden portable altar is also preserved.
