Il Passo dello Spluga sin dall'epoca dei Romani, ma ancor prima risalendo fino alla preistoria, è stato uno dei valichi delle Alpi centrali più utilizzato.
Ancora oggi sono numerosissime le tracce delle vie di passaggio che lungo i secoli hanno cambiato più volte ubicazione causa eventi naturali o per migliorie tecniche.
Un esempio lo si trova in prossimità del Passo, sul versante italiano. Qui, per un breve tratto, lungo la Via Spluga (che con un percorso di 65km collega Chiavenna a Thusis) sono presenti contemporaneamente due tratti di mulattiera della strada di epoca moderna: quella inferiore risalente al 1643 e quella superiore, di addolcimento della pendenza, risalente al 1716.
La Letterbox
Per raggiungere la cache avete due possibilità:
1) sia che stiate salendo a piedi da Montespluga sia che siate arrivati fin qui in auto, dalle coordinate del listing prendete la Via Spluga verso il Passo; in dieci minuti sarete sul tratto della doppia mulattiera; oltrepassato questo, vi troverete su un tratto acciotolato e alla vostra sinistra in prossimità di un segnavia giallo troverete il masso in foto. Dietro di esso è nascosta la cache. Questa è la scelta che vi consiglio perchè l'avvicinamento alla doppia mulattiera è molto più suggestivo.
2) al Passo parcheggiate l'auto sul lato italiano (parcheggio libero e più grande); andate alla MoCache_CH87 Splügen; da lì seguite le indicazioni per la Via Spluga e poi per Montespluga; in meno di cinque minuti sarete a GZ.
Il timbro e il tampone naturalmente non vanno rimossi!

The Splügenpass since Roman times, but even before going back to prehistory, was one of the most used central Alpine passes.
Even today there are numerous traces of the passage ways which down the centuries have changed location several times due to natural events or for technical upgrading.
An example is found in the vicinity of the pass, on the Italian side. Here, for a short distance along the Via Spluga (that with a 65km route links Chiavenna to Thusis) are simultaneously present two sections of the modern era mule track: the lower one dating back to 1643 and the higher one, softening of the slope, dating back to 1716.
The Letterbox
To reach the cache you have two choices:
1) whether you are walking up from Montespluga or whether you have arrived here by car, at the listing coordinates take the Via Spluga towards the Pass; in ten minutes you will be on the stretch of the double mule track; passing this, you will find yourself on a cobbled section and on your left, next to a yellow trail sign, you will find the stone in the picture. Behind it you'll find the letterbox. This is the choice that I recommend because the approach to the double mule trail is much more impressive.
2) park your car on the Italian side of the Splügenpass (free and bigger parking place); go to MoCache_CH87 Splügen; from there follow the signs for the Via Spluga and then to Montespluga; in less than five minutes you will be at GZ.
The stamp and the pad of course must not be removed!
