Geocache Description:

An old mining ghost town of the late 1800's. A great area of the mountains that is very historical and picturesque.

Cache is located about 11 miles up the Lincoln Creek road off of Hwy 82 (Independence Pass) the elevation is about 11,500 feet , it is about an hour trip by ATV or 2 hour trip by jeep (one way). Last 5 miles of the road requires a high clearance vehicle, really recommend a 4x4. An old mining ghost town that has 4 or 5 old structures from the late 1800's. Several hiking trails in the area along with camping sites and high country lakes for fishing. Scenic mountain vistas and just remote enough that it doesn't get a lot of tourists. Road is usually only open from early July till maybe mid to late September, so be careful not to get caught in this area because of adverse road or weather conditions (NO CELL PHONE SERVICE). There is a lot of private property and mining claims in the area so even though there are few No Trespassing signs in the area please respect nature and the property owner's rights (TREAD LIGHTLY). According to my GPS this cache is located on a sliver of US Forest Servcie land. As with any old mining or ghost town area PLEASE be aware of your surroundings and be alert for possbile hazards. Cache contains emergency supplies, FTF, and other trinkets. Enjoy the Rocky Mountains!!!
