Faderen forlod Martin og hans to yngre søskende.
eng: The sculpture is the first real full body sculpture in Sønderborg by a former citizen. It is made possible thanks to the Art Fund President A. P. Hansen, who in connection with his 80th birthday asked guests to donate money for the sculpture. Martin was scavenger and known in the streets of children and old, who rejoiced when he with a small train whistle announced its arrival around town.
