Geocache Description:

One of the best known and probably the longest one-word railway station name in the world, so what better place for a SideTracked FlashMob to celebrate the 9th annual SideTracked Day 2016?

We have Motorway Mayhem. We have A-Road Anarchy (cos there aren’t many motorways in Wales!). But what about public transport users? SideTracked caches are intended to provide quick cache-and-dashes at train stations. For more information on SideTracked caches, please visit the SideTracked web site.

This will be a Flash Mob event lasting just 30 minutes

Where? In north east corner of public car park in front of the railway station (we cannot be right by the railway station for security reasons)

When? 12 noon to 12.30pm on Wednesday 10 August 2016

Why? Because it's the 9th Annual SideTracked Day

Who? All cachers are welcome, locals and visitors alike

I will have been visiting the North Wales Mega at Llangollen the week before, and decided to come on to Ynys Môn (Anglesey) for a few days for some more caching, and meet a few local and visiting cachers.

If you have never been to a Flash Mob before, you will be especially welcome. The idea is to suddenly assemble at 12 noon out of nowhere, meet for 30 minutes, and then disperse just as suddenly and mysteriously. Bystanders will be left wondering what just happened! Try to avoid looking like a cacher until noon, when a whistle will be blown to mark the start of the event and the signal to reveal yourself. There will be a log for those who wish to mark their attendance, and a group photograph in front of the above name board.

For a bit of extra fun, try to learn to pronounce the place name before the event, and there may be a spot price for the best non-Welsh speaking achiever!

More generally known as Llanfair Pwllgwyngyll or Llanfair PG (to distinguish it from many other Llanfairs throughout Wales) the long form of the name was concocted for promotional purposes in the 1860s, after the railway came in 1848; it is the longest place name in Europe and the second longest official one-word place name in the world. Loosely translated from the Welsh the full name means Church of Saint Mary in the hollow of the White Hazel near the rapid whirlpool and the church of Saint Tysilio with a red cave.

The railway was built as the North Wales Coast line, and connected the ferry port of Holyhead to London Euston via Crewe, and incorporated the building of the Britannia Bridge across the Menai Straight to the mainland. In spite of having the longest name, the station has very short platforms at only 40 yards (37m) in length.

UPDATE 8 August 2016
I’m very pleased to announce that in addition to the 9th Annual SideTracked Day badge you can claim for attending, the SideTracked Administrators have made a Profile Badge available especially for this event. You can read more about this and download the badge for your profile from here . Please note that this is a Profile Badge and NOT a Groundspeak souvenir – it won’t be automatically added to your Souvenirs when you log an Attended, you will have to download and add it to your profile if you want it.
