Geocache Description:

There is nothing to find at the posted coordinates, except golfers and golf balls.

My second "MixTape" based puzzle, and my fifth Little Bridge.   Solve the puzzle to get the coordinates of the cache, which are near a Little Bridge.

My second “MixTape” – inspired by Antpeng’s Mixtape series.

In the early 80s I lived and studied in Canada for a while.     There I met many good friends, not least of all “ajmitchell” who not only was the best man at my wedding, but introduced me to geocaching!   And while there, we listened to a lot of music.

The other day, “ajmitchell” contacted me.   He was trying to track down an album by an obscure Canadian band who we listened to back in the day.    He only had it on cassette tape and was trying to find it in a digital format.   Anyway, that prompted me to create this Mixtape.

Whilst the “tape” does contain a few rather obscure tracks (at least obscure to non-Canadian audiences), it largely consists of well-known tracks/artists over the last 6 decades.    You need to listen to the tape and answer a few questions to obtain the coordinates.   I hope you find yourself saying “I didn’t know he/she/they were Canadian!”.

To get things started, an easy one.. complete this lyric fragment

I got my first real six-string

Bought it at the five-and-dime

Played it till my fingers bled

Was the summer of 'XY

Determine the 2 digit number XY.

Now go to bit.ly/TakeOffXY  (replace XY with the number)

If any issues with that link, try this one instead: bit.ly/AltTakeOffXY

If neither works for you, then likely your Internet Provider is blocking bit.ly links. In this case, simply enter the 2-digit number XY into this "certitude" checker.    It will give you the links you need.  This is different from the coordinate checker later on.

Enter the value of XY to get the media links with  certitude.

Canadian Content

Canadian recording artists benefit from “Canadian Content” regulations, which require radio stations to play up to 40% Canadian content.     For music, the requirements are referred to as the "MAPL system".

To qualify as Canadian content a musical selection must generally fulfil at least two of the following conditions:

M (music) — the music is composed entirely by a Canadian

A (artist) — the music is, or the lyrics are, performed principally by a Canadian

P (performance) — the musical selection consists of a performance that is: Recorded wholly in Canada, or Performed wholly in Canada and broadcast live in Canada.

L (lyrics) — the lyrics are written entirely by a Canadian

There are four special cases where a musical selection may qualify as Canadian content:

The musical selection was recorded before January 1972 and meets one, rather than two, of the above conditions.

It is an instrumental performance of a musical composition written or composed by a Canadian.

It is a performance of a musical composition that a Canadian has composed for instruments only.

The musical selection was performed live or recorded after September 1, 1991, and, in addition to meeting the criterion for either artist or production, a Canadian who has collaborated with a non-Canadian receives at least half of the credit for both music and lyrics.

There are also Canadian content regulations relating to television.    Bob and Doug McKenzie are a pair of fictional Canadian brothers who hosted "Great White North", a sketch which was introduced on SCTV for the show's third season when it moved to CBC Television in 1980. Bob is played by Rick Moranis and Doug is played by Dave Thomas.  Their sketches were created originally to both satisfy and mock network Canadian content demands.    The sketches were loaded with Canadian stereotypes; as the sketches largely feature beer, donuts, toques, back bacon, and calling each-other “hosehead” or "hoser", and telling each-other to “take off”.   And now you know why I named this cache as I did.     You will find my mixtape starts and finishes with a comic musical number by this duo.

If you want to learn more about Canada, this will help.

The puzzle

Except for A and B, the answers are the track number on the tape.      The tracks are numbered 1-11 on each side.   Doesn't matter which side the track is on.     “Artist” refers to a band or solo recording artist; whichever applies.   If the track value is 10 or more, take it modulo 10; i.e 10=0 and 11=1, etc.   (Don't do this with the values of A and B).

How many tracks on this tape appear on the 2005 CBC Radio One series 50 Tracks: The Canadian Version.?   (A)

How many artists on this tape appear on the 2005 CBC Radio One series 50 Tracks: The Canadian Version.?   This includes those in (A) plus others.   Note:  Some artists appear more than once, only count them once.   (B)

The Little Bridges series was started by Stanthews in 2009 to highlight small footbridges in remote parts of Wiltshire. Since then the series has been expanded by others all over the country and starting to spread fast. There is a stats listing, so you can see how many Little Bridges you have found, you can find it here:- www.littlebridgesseries.co.uk . If you would like to add to the series, please contact Stan via the Little Bridges website with your caching name, name of your Little Bridge and the GC code and he will give you a number for your bridge. To qualify, the bridge must be a foot bridge too small for vehicles, please make sure your title exactly matches "Little Bridges # xxxx then the name" including spaces so it will get picked up and added to stats list.
