Come join us for a reunion at the original site of the Going Caching Mega-event. Going Coastal was born from a GGA event in November of 2010 and has grown into an amazing event. But back in the day, the event was held right here at Skidaway State Park and had a pirate theme. (Make sure to check out this year's version at Franklin Delano Roosevelt (FDR) State Park)
History of Going Coastal/Going Caching
November 2010 - Going Coastal: GGA November Meeting (GC2DHV9)
The very first event. This was the brainchild of johnnie and hosted by the GGA. A bunch of folks attended and had a wonderful time. It wasn't a Mega, but the writing was on the wall for the next year.
November 2011 - Going Coastal ... arrgh! (GC2V68Q)
Going Coastal goes Mega! The event was handed off to what is now the Going Caching Crew which continues to produce the event today. There were a few associated events the year before, but in 2011 the event expanded to a real multi-day event. There was still a pirate theme and there was even a pirate ship!
November 2012 - Going Caching 2012: Going Coastal One More Time! (GC3EJ97)
The biggest event yet, but the last Going Coastal. The event was very near to outgrowing Skidaway and would move to FDR State Park the next year.
October 2013 - Going Caching 2013 (GC407GG)
The event moved to FDR and October! We met both Franklin Roosevelt and Winston Churchill and another character by the name of Ace Tupper! The event had an "Indiana Jones" theme and over 100 new caches published in the park.
October 2014 - Going Caching MMXIV (GC4AHKM)
The event moved to Rome and had either right at or over 1000 attendees. Ancient Rome was the theme and we saw many outstanding costumes.
October 2015 - Going Caching 2015 (GC5695A)
From Ancient Rome to the Renaissance. We were back in Rome and the event grew again.
October 2016 - Going Caching 2016 (GC64EZ3)
The next event. The event is back at FDR and the theme will be Steam Punk/Time Travel.
Trivia Event
We are very pleased that the It's Just All Trivial folks will be joining us and running a great trivia contest as part of the event. We won't announce the topic of the questions, but you might just be able to guess! Teams of 2–6 will compete in a lighthearted competition of geocaching knowledge. There will be prizes for each round winner as well as a grand prize for the overall winner. Don't worry if you don't have a team formed ahead of time; teams can be formed on the spot before trivia begins.
Schedule
2:00pm - The event starts with a social hour to allow everyone to renew old friendships and make new ones.
3:00pm - We'll start the Trivia event.
5:00pm - We'll wrap up the Trivia and present awards to the winning team!
Notes
Bring a folding chair as seating may be limited.
Make sure to reserve your campsite if you are camping as the sites may go quickly.
This event is being held at a Georgia State Park and there is a $5 parking fee unless you have a yearly Friends of Georgia State Parks membership.
