Vor Ort könnt Ihr erfahren, in welchem Winkel sich die Dose befindet. Ist Euch dies gelungen, so nehmt die Quersumme als Entfernung in Metern vom Fußpunkt aus.

Indeed, that's one way of looking at it - and it definitely needed a cache ;-)
On location you can find out the angle at which the cache is placed. The sum of the digits provides you with its distance in meters from the base point.
