DE: Die Geschichte der Alpen ist an keinem Ort so eindrücklich nachvollziehbar wie im Unesco-Welterbe zwischen Murgsee, Pizol und Martinsloch bei Elm. Hier zeugen weltweit einzigartige Spuren von den gewaltigen Kräften der Natur beim Zusammenstoss der Kontinente Afrika und Europa.
Man sieht sie schon von weitem: Die markante Kerbe rund um den Piz Sardona trennt das 250 Millionen Jahre alte Verrucanogestein vom 35 bis 50 Millionen Jahre alten Flyschgestein. Aussergewöhnlich daran ist, dass hier das junge Material unten liegt – lange Zeit ein Rätsel für die Geologen und so einzigartig, dass es 2008 als Swiss Tectonic Arena Sardona in die Liste der Unesco-Welterbe aufgenommen wurde.
Die "Glarner Hauptüberschiebung" – besonders schön zu entdecken in der Lochsite – bildet das Herz des 300 Quadratkilometer grossen Geoparks Sarganserland–Walensee–Glarnerland.

EN: Few places illustrate the history of the Alps as impressively as the UNESCO World Heritage Site between the Murgsee lake, Pizol and Martin's Hole near Elm. Unique formations bear witness to the awesome power of nature when the continents of Africa and Europe collided.
Clearly visible from a great distance: the distinctive notch around the Piz Sardona separates the 250-million-year-old Verrucano rock from the 35 to 50 million years “young” Flysch rock. Extraordinary is that ancient stone formations overlie those that are millions of years younger - which was long an enigma for geologists, and a fact so unique that led it to the addition of the Swiss Tectonic Arena Sardona on the Unesco World Heritage list in 2008.
The Glarus overthrust, particularly attractive to discover around the Martin’s Hole, forms the heart of the 300 square meter Sarganserland- Walensee-Glarnerland Geopark.

Die Tektonikarena Sardona wurde im Juli 2008 von der UNESCO als weltweit einzigartige bezeichnet und in die UNESCO Welterbe-Liste aufgenommen.
Das knapp 330 km2 Gebiet wurde nach dem Piz Sardona benannt. In der Tektonikarena Sardona stehen die Berge Kopf: entlang einer markanten, hellen Linie, der sogenannten Glarner Hauptüberschiebung, wurden in der Erdkruste während der Entstehung der Alpen alter Verrucano Gesteine (250-300 Mio. Jahre) auf viel jüngere Flysch-Gesteine (35-50 Mio. Jahre) geschoben.
Bei den Ankerkoordinaten befindest Du Dich bei einem Aussichtspunkt mit Informationstafeln und natürlich einem wunderschönen Blick Richtung Glarner Hauptüberschiebung und auf die Neue Brücke Pfäfers–Valens.

Zum Cache:
1. Geniesse vom Holzzaun aus die schöne Aussicht auf Berg und Tal und zähle die Anzahl dicken, grossen runden vom Holzzaun.

2. Gehe nun zur grossen drehbaren Infotafel. Wie viele Seiten zählst Du hier?
Anzahl = B
3. Auf der Tafel befindet sich ein Bild einer Weltrekordtanne. Wie hoch ist die Fichte?
Höhe in m = C
4. Suche auf der Karte den Piz Sardona und notiere die Höhe.
Nimme von der Höhe die zweistellige Quersumme =D
Nun kann gerechnet werden. In der Nähe hat es genug Sitzgelegenheiten um dies in aller Ruhe zu erledigen.

UNESCO - World Heritage Tektonikarena Sardona - Pfäfers
The Tektonikarena Sardona was marked as worldwide unique in July 2008 by UNESCO and has been registered as a UNESCO World Heritage.
The almost 330sqm big area has been named after Mt.(Piz) Sardona. At the Tektonikarena Sardona the mountains are upside down: Along a distinct, bright line, the so called main overthrust of Glarus, old layers of Verrucano rocks (250-300 Mio.years) have been moved over younger layers of Flysch rocks (35-50 Mio.years) during the building of the Alps
At the anchor coordinates you'll be at a lookout point with information boards and, of course, a wonderful view onto the overthrust of Glarus as well as onto the new bridge from Pfäfers to Valens

The cache:
1. Enjoy a beautiful view to mountain and valley from the the wooden fence and count the numbers of the thick, round and large "things" of the wooden fence.

2. Go to the big rotatable information board. How may "pages" do you count?

3. At the board you can find a picture of a world record fir tree. How tall is this spruce?
Tallness in m = C
4. Have a look at the map, search for Piz Sardona and take its height.
Take the double-digit cross sum from the height =D
Now it's time for the calculation. There are some benches nearby where you can do it calmly.
