The Long Benton War Memorial is a cross on tall, slender white granite octagonal column was unveiled 6th May 1922. The memorial is located in the Benton Cemetery behind St Bartholomew's Church. The cemetery is open as follows :
April to October
Monday to Friday - 9am to 6.45pm
Saturday, Sunday and Bank Holidays - 10am to 4.45pm
November to March
Monday to Friday - 9am to 3.45pm
Saturday, Sunday and Bank Holidays - 10am to 3.45pm

A = Number of letters in the surname of the first hero listed on the rear panel of the memorial
B = Number of letters of the second hero's surname minus the third hero's surname listed on the left side of the memorial (same panel as Sister Knox)
C = Number of letters in the third word of line four on the front of the memorial. Line one contains numbers.
D = Second number minus the last number on the front of the memorial
E = Number of heroes list on the rear panel (middle) of the memorial
F = The Sister mentioned on the memorial has a small stone located on the grass in front of the memorial. On the stone the Sister gave service in ? number of places, add one to that number

There are literally thousands of War memorials around the country. Memorials were usually raised through public subscription to remember those that gave the ultimate sacrifice for the freedom of our country. The year 2014 was the centenary of the start of the First World War, so it was about time there was a series dedicated to War Memorials. There is an un-numbered series in Scotland called Lest-we-forget and another called Poppies on Parade. Any of these will happily be added to the War Memorial Series, just ask for a number. The name of this series “We will remember them”, was chosen from the very moving poem “For the Fallen” by Laurence Binyon. It is well worth searching out and reading.”
