Geocache Description:

Although this station is no longer functional the buildings and platforms are now a private residence. This cache celebrates Swaffham Prior station on the Cambridge to Mildenhall line (Great Eastern Railway) and is a small tube hidden within sight of where the railway crossed the road.

This station opened on 2 June 1884 and is located about half a mile away from the village. Passenger services ran until 1962 before the line was entirely closed in 1964. This line owes its existance to Mr Charles Allix of nearby Swaffham Prior House.

Here's what the station used to look like from around 1905. In the far distance you can see the former level crossing.

And a view of the station forecourt.

Please be reminded that the station is now a private residence.

More information on the station can be found on the Disused Stations Website and for the SideTracked series visit the SideTracked Website
