Sandhill cranes migrate each spring through Washington. They have also known to forage in the marshy field on Twin Bridges Road. Adult birds can have a wingspan between 6 - 8 ft and stand more than 4 ft tall. They feed on a variety of plant tubers, grains, small vertebrates (mice and snakes), and invertebrates (insects or worms). In the winter they will go to California’s Center Valley and migrate north in the spring to nesting sites in Alaska.
