Geocache Description:

A revival of a previous Fine Pair cache which was sadly archived

A Fine Pair located in Onslow Village, Guildford. There is parking available nearby but I would avoid school drop off and collection times if possible.

Number 67 in a series of caches where a red telephone box is in close proximity to a post box.
The only rules are that they have to be able to be photographed together, be not more than 100’ apart and the phone boxes have to be red.

Onslow Village is a suburb on the Western side of Guildford, sandwiched between the A3 and the A31. The land for the village was aquired in 1920 from Richard Onslow, 5th Earl of Onslow and in May that year the foundations for the first two houses were laid. By March 1922 ninety one houses had been built. The village has a thriving Residents Association, two very good schools, a lovely park a new play area and the Onslow Village arboretum. This was developed by Guildford Borough Council in 1995 with the theme of Around The World in Eighty Trees. The arboretum provides a walking area which is also wheelchair accessable. There is also a memorial tree to the world motor racing champion Mike Hawthorn who died on 22nd January 1959 in a high speed crash on the A3.

To round things off the present GZ was reopened by the current Lord Onslow following extensive work done by members of the Onslow Village Residents Association.

The number 18 bus from Guildford bus station stops nearby, it runs on a circular route back to Guildford however it now runs approximately every 1 1/2 hrs.
Whilst in the area you may like to try some of the other local caches, all are within a reasonable walking distance.

Postbox number on the Post box GUABCD1D and on the yellow grit bin 1EF17

The cache can be found at N51 14.(C-F)A(D+B+F) W000 35.(F+D+E)(A+B+F)(A+E+C)

This is the first cache I have placed, I have checked the co-ordinates using two GPSr's, however please let me know if any corrections are thought necessary. Placed with kind permission from Onslow Village Residents Association.

The Fine Pair series was originally started by wizardsmum but is now managed by mattd2k.

If anybody would like to place 'A Fine Pair' of their own please do. I would just ask that you first visit http://www.afinepair.co.uk to request a number to avoid any duplication.

mattd2k also keeps a public Bookmark List of this series. Once your cache is published please contact him via geocachingafinepair@gmail.com
