Day: Saturday, May 7, 2016 Time: 2-4 p.m.
It's finally here.... that annual day in which the most exciting 2 minutes in sports takes place! Of course, some may argue that Preakness and Belmont days are just as exciting, but Derby Day is the one that kicks off the race for the Triple Crown. It's the one race in which 20 contenders have a chance of winning not only the Kentucky Derby, but the coveted Triple Crown and going down into the history books as one of very few horses to accomplish this feat. Last year, 2015, fans were lucky enough to watch American Pharoah run his heart out and become only the 12th horse in history to achieve this accomplishment. This year, the excitement begins anew!
Seize the opportunity to share in the excitement by joining us for live harness racing and simulcast thoroughbred racing from the nation's top parks, including Churchill Downs. We will meet outside by the track weather permitting (inside otherwise) from 2-4 p.m.to share geocaching stories, catch up with old friends, meet new geocachers, and, of course, discuss our picks for the winner of the big race!
After the meet and greet, folks may choose to stick around for more fun and to watch the Kentucky Derby broadcast live with a post time of 6:34 p.m. The venue will have a variety of events, including a Kentucky Derby hat contest and a buffet dinner upstairs in the Downs Club beginning in mid-afternoon.
Don't miss out on the excitement! Grab your best hat and come on down to the Downs for an afternoon that is sure to be full of fun! Admission is free. Food and drink is available for a price, but is completely optional. Gambling will not be a part of the event. This event is family-friendly, and kids are encouraged to attend. Please do not bring pets as they are not allowed inside the venue.
