NOTE The wreakage has been removed from the beach and is no longer visible.
Park at 43.24.145, 124.17.294. Parking area has a pile of drift logs next to it. The walk to the wreck is over several large sand dunes and takes about a half hour. The New Carrissa grounded itself on the beach in June of 1999. The hull was cracked by the pounding of the waves. Explosives were used to burn off the remaining fuel. During the burn the hull split in half. The bow section was towed to sea where it broke its tow and ended up near Waldport Oregon. A tow line was reattached and the bow section was sunk by a well placed torpedo by a Navy submarine many miles out to sea.
While in the local area I couldn't find any information on how to view the wreck and had to explore on my own. These coords will help in your search.
If you have a vehicle that is equipped for dune travel there is a road 1/4 mile east that will take you closer to the wreck.
Observe all warning signs and stay off the wreck.
E-mail me with the number of pieces of wreckage you can see and I will post your find.
