Village Signs - Barcombe Cross
Village signs is a series of caches based on the ornate signs that depict the heritage, history and culture of the
villages that put them up (normally on the village green!).
Barcombe is a village in East Sussex approximately 5 miles north of Lewes
There are three names on the village sign.
Bergchamp .... as recorded in the Domesday Book
Barcombe .... the original village which was evacuated during the medieval plague
Barcombe Cross .. where the villagers moved to when they evacuated Barcombe
Near to the Village sign you will find a Finger Post with a small brass plaque .
This plaque has five words and a number.
The cache can be found at N50 55. ABC E000 01.DEF
A = Number of letters in the fifth word
B = Number of letters in the second word
C = Number of digits in the number
D = Number of letters in the third word -5
E = Number of letters in the fourth word -7
F = Number of letters in the first word -5
If anybody would like to expand this series please do. I would just ask that you let Smokeypugs know first so they can keep track of the Village Sign numbers and names to avoid duplication.
