Númenor was an island raised for the Edain, men who fought with the Elves and Valar against Morgoth, the dark lord to whom Sauron was only a lieutenant. Led by their first king Elros, half-elven and brother of Elrond, the Edain entered the island which was then ferried by the Valar to a location in the sea west of Middle Earth. The Númenoreans were wiser, hardier and longer lived then the men of middle earth. They became great mariners, settling many lands, first as explorers who helped lesser men, later as conquerors.

After several thousand years, they became prideful, distrusting of elves and their everlasting life. Ar-Pharazôn, the last king conquered the armies of Sauron and brought him back to Númenor where he proceeded to corrupt and poison the minds of the king and most of the Númenoreans. When Ar-Pharazôn sailed to conquer the undying lands with a great Armada, Númenor was sunk under sea. The only survivors were the Dúnedain , or Men of Westerness, who sailed to Middle Earth. Unliked the rest of Númenoreans, these Dúnedain , known as The Faithful retained respect for both Elves and the Valar. Elendil and his sons Isildur and Anarion led them to create the kingdoms of Arnor and Gondor. [In this tale, Númenor seems to represent both Atlantis, and to a lesser extent the Tower of Babel].

There are two approaches which can be taken. The longer, but safer route is to follow the path of the Edain, which approaches from the northeast. Several waypoints are included. Climbing up the south face is doable, if you can find the path. I took this way down after taking the longer way up.

This is a letterbox hybrid. In addition to the normal logbook and trade items, it also contains a letterbox stamp, inkpad, and stamp book. Please do not remove the stamp, ink pad, or stamp book. THEY ARE NOT TRADE ITEMS!
