Dartmoor Trig Points - Yes Tor Mystery Cache

This cache has been archived.

Yukonhuskies: I no longer have the time to spend on Geocaching and I certainly do not have the patience to deal with an ever increasing number of snowflakes.

Thank you to all the people who have genuinely found my caches over the years.

Geocache Description:

The final location is inside the Okehampton range and access will be limited to non-firing times; the timetable can be found here. Warning signals, red flags by day and red lamps by night, indicate that live firing is taking place within the range boundaries, which are marked by red and white poles. When warning signals are displayed do not cross the range boundary.

Please ensure that the flush bracket number is not visible in any photos.

The cache is NOT at the posted co ordinates.

Stage 1: Use your OL28 1:25000 map

At the Yes Tor triangulation point, you follow the track south for approximately 1km. A large steep sided valley is apparent below. You descend the valley and search for a suitable point to cross the river and locate a ford. Crossing the river, you ascend the other side of the valley and head to a small tor some 40m below the peak of the hill. From this tor, you make your way to another that is 1.7km distant due west. Which OS grid square are you now in? Grid = ABCD

Stage 2: Visit the trig point and obtain the four digit number from the base plate. Trig No = EFGH

The cache can be found at:

N 50 (H-E) (D-G) . (A-E) (C-G) (A-B)
W 004 (H-B) (C-D) . E (C+E-B) (C+E)

Please Note: This is a Military Training Area on which live firing and other pyrotechnics may be used. The area is generally open public access. One of the safety rules for public access is:- Do not, (and ensure that children do not) approach, touch or pick up any metal objects lying on the ground. Please obey all bylaws and locally posted information concerning times when the area may be closed. These may be physical barriers, marker posts, flags, lights or manned control posts.
