SLAGA Spring Picnic Saturday May 7, 2016
This year, the SLAGA Spring Picnic will be at St. Louis County’s Clydesdale Park. This is located near Lindbergh Ave. and Hwy 21 (Tesson Ferry) in Southwest St. Louis County. The address is 9801 Green Park Road 63123.
A short bit of history about the park: In July of 1971, the Park and Recreation Advisory Board members visited several south county sites. After careful review, they recommended the Gravois Creek area for a future park. The property was acquired with money from the 1969 Bond Issue funds, and a matching grant from the Bureau of Outdoor Recreation for L&WC funds was received for the first phase development. The park opened to the public in the spring of 1976. Originally named Gravois Creek Park, it was renamed in 1983 to recognize the longtime interest in Clydesdale horses of August Busch Junior, a nearby property owner and president of Anheuser-Busch Brewery. The park is 117 acres and has a picnic shelter, playground, restrooms, baseball fields, several park trails and is an access point to Grant’s Trail. There is also plenty of parking.
*** IMPORTANT NOTE: I didn’t realize until after I booked it, this shelter has only 14 picnic tables. I will be bringing extra tables from one of the community centers, but if you have a camp chair, it would great if you could bring it. *** .
DETAILS:
SLAGA will be supplying the hot dogs, brats, hamburgers and buns along with condiments, plates, napkins and utensils. We ask that you bring a side dish or other food to share and your drinks.
The prices will be as follows:
• SLAGA Premium Member Adults $5.00
• Non-Premium Member Adults $7.00
• Kids 5-12 $3.00
• Kids 4 and under free
Please post your "Will Attend" log as soon as you can with the number of people attending, your preference of meat and how many you'd like.
This allows us to order what we need without buying too much. Please list what dish you will be bringing as well.
We will be having a 50-50 drawing (you must be present to win), Geo Bingo, Silent Auction, Travel Bug Table, the Ammo Can Toss and Closest to the Pin contest.
SCHEDULE OF EVENTS:
• 9:30 a.m. - Set up.
• 10:30 a.m. - Registration begins.
• 1:00 p.m. - Lunch begins.
• 3:00 p.m. - Silent Auction bidding ends and all games close.
• 3:30 p.m. - General announcements and business, Milestone Awards, Silent Auction and 50-50 winners, all game winners, and Premium Membership drawing.
2016 SLAGA TB RACE:
This year, Hobbit Taz is sponsoring the extremely popular and fun SLAGA Travel Bug Race! Read below for all you need to know:
• Registration for the race will take place at the SLAGA spring picnic on May 7, 2016. If you are unable to attend the picnic, you must email Hobbit Taz the trackable number and cacher name information before the day of the Spring Picnic.
• Trackables must start with zero miles.
• Trackables must be placed by their owner in a cache within fourteen days after the picnic, May 7, 2016.
• Once the trackables have been placed, no participants of the race will pick up any of the registered trackables.
• NO DIPPING ALLOWED - TB owner must place in a cache with no "visiting" prior.
• The trackable with the most miles on it by 1 week prior to the SLAGA Winter Potluck and Cabin Fever (Date TBA) will be declared the winner.
• The winner will be announced at the SLAGA Winter Potluck and Cabin Fever - 2017 event.
• Distance calculated from starting cache (first place by cache owner, not including the picnic).
Contact Hobbit Taz for questions or to register a TB if you will not be attending the Spring Picnic. Also, SLAGA will have 12 new Travel Bug tags (for the race) that will be available for $5/each.
