The Fovant Badges were carved by soldiers based in camps around the Wiltshire village of Fovant as they waited to be sent to the Western Front. The badges were scheduled as Ancient Monuments in 2001.
Free parking is available at the viewpoint at N51°03.542 W001°59.090 (SU012289). The walk to the cache is 3/4 mile which includes a 1/4 mile fairly steep climb but you'll be rewarded with fantastic views and an iron age fort at the top of the hill (Chiselbury Ring). Alternatively you can park at the top of the hill at N51°03.060 W001°58.432 (SU019279) but be warned, you'll need to drive for over a mile along a very rough pot-holed track! While you're on the hill fort look to the south west and you'll see the instantly recognisable semi-circular clump of trees at Win Green, the highest point in Wiltshire.
The cache is a 2 litre tupperware box and was restocked on 14 August 2004. Don't feel obliged to take anything but please leave something of similar value if you do (not a travel bug). PLEASE DON'T TAKE SOMETHING JUST TO LEAVE IN ANOTHER CACHE. Feel free to take one of our handcrafted geocaching badges (no swop required). We recommend that you wear gardening gloves to retrieve this cache!
