Geocache Description:

A Cache In Trash Out event arranged in partnership with The Fareham Society Annual Beach Clean. All geocachers attending will qualify for this season's CITO 2016 Souvenir.

For some years now, Solent Runner has arranged for us to join with The Fareham Society to help with the worthwhile community activity of clearing the litter from this beach. This year, he's already committed to another event on this day (the Southampton Half-Marathon) so will be with us in spirit! However, most other aspects of the Annual Beach Clean will remain the same and be familiar to old hands and previous attendees of this event. Let's hope the weather is kind to us!

This Sunday morning event will involve a good skirmish of the beach from Meon Shore to Brownwich.

  • Start at 09:00 SUNDAY 24TH APRIL - look out for mellers
  • Skirmish finished before 11:30 am.

We will gather at 9:00 AM ON SUNDAY 24th APRIL. GZ will be by the picket fence adjacent to where the ice cream van parks (next to the public convenience) where you can pick up a bag and swap TBs if you want to. Mellers will take a team photo of those who'd like to be in it. Once our geocache business has been completed (9:15 am) we will walk to the far end of the beach to clear "our area". Those who attended in previous years will remember that this was the area in need of most attention, due to prevailing winds and tides.

Bags will be provided – please bring your own gloves and other equipment you think is appropriate.

This year, we are trying to arrange collection from the white house at the top of the cliff at the far end of the beach (near to When The Boat Goes Out (1-13) - GC2ZWZF) however, at the time of publication, this has not yet been confirmed. We may have to ask that you bring the bag back to the start point as you return to your car but this will be clarified on the day. (See edit below)

There is plenty of free parking available but get here early to grab a good spot!

Additional info 18th April 2014 - Having spoken to the lovely lady from the Fareham Society, it seems that they have been unable to arrange collection from further along the beach as in previous years, so please will all cachers bring their bag(s) of rubbish back to the start point. It may make sense for everyone to walk along as far westwards as you can (up to no further than When The Boat Goes Out (1-13) - GC2ZWZF) and work your way back eastwards to the start, picking rubbish up as you go. Please also ensure that you tie the bag up with a knot in the plastic before you leave it, otherwise the collectors will not remove it for us.
We are also to be joined by some members of 'Surfers Against Sewage' who are including our event as part of their own Big Spring Beach Clean initiative.

To log this cache - try to collect a bag of rubbish - thank you.
